Why Reading Companions?

I've been a story-teller for as long as I can remember.

I remember as a boy, my mother telling me stories and introducing me to the magic of movies. John Wayne, Fred and Ginger, Marilyn Monroe, Spencer Tracey, Kathryn Hepburn...she watched them all and me with her, every Saturday afternoon. I must admit, it was a world I was drawn to immediately and as I got older, and became a performer,  it was a world I preferred to inhabit.

Why?

Because anything was possible and if I chose, I could be the hero or the bad-guy. Didn't matter.

It was an escape from the everyday.

The mundane.

For me back then, the Seventies. And let's face it, orange formica table-tops and corduroy pants and jumpsuits were truly the stuff of nightmares!

Stories enable our brains to switch off from the daily grind and to rest...to process...to recover.

To dream.

I started this idea, along with my wife, when I was made redundant and when an actor friend was dying. He was a voracious reader but suddenly found himself unable to digest his favorite books because of his illness. And I thought, what if I were to read to him instead? The idea also came from me reading to my wife whilst she drove, 'doing' all the character voices and accents. (My apologies to Diana Gabaldon)

And so the idea was born.

Do you remember being read to as a child?

Did you live in those worlds in your imagination? Well, I’d love to re-live them with you and read for you, read aloud for you.

For you and for your loved ones or friends and clients.
